Work hard, play hard. It’s not just an ideal for us — it’s a reality. And it’s one that we strive to achieve each day. So, it’s no accident that we established DR in the middle of one of our state’s adventure meccas. In 2011, we opened up our doors in Fayetteville, West Virginia, and we haven’t looked back since. 

Doing creative work in an environment that is creative by nature has always been the perfect pairing. From world-renowned whitewater rafting to rock climbing and bouldering to hiking and mountain biking, we’re just steps away from a natural playground that allows us to unwind and challenge ourselves in different ways when we step away from our work. 

Eric Fizer, our Ad Ops and Analytics Coordinator and avid rock climber, feels like he is living the dream — translating data during the day, then single pitch rock climbing by evening. 

“To be able to do this kind of work while living in an adventurous town like this is incomparable,” he said. 

We’re not the only creatives that call Fayetteville, listed as one of the “Top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America,” home. It’s no surprise that we’re right at home with our peers. Some of the best-known West Virginia-created eateries, Pies and Pints and Cathedral Cafe, were born just around the corner from our office. And take it from us — good food in our bellies keeps the creative juices flowing! Plus, with two breweries in town, you’re sure to find a few of us brainstorming or bonding over the latest release as we kick back at the end of the week and enjoy what we refer to as “Beer Fridays.”

But it’s not just the great recreation and delicious dishes that keep us inspired; it’s the people. The culture in Fayetteville is inviting, carefree and full of other creatives, just like us. Musicians, woodworkers and painters all convene here, and we’re lucky to call them friends. It’s vital to us and our process to connect with other people doing creative work, hear their stories, share their challenges and celebrate their successes. And while our little slice of heaven has long been one of West Virginia’s best-kept secrets, the cat’s out of the bag with the New River Gorge’s newly appointed National Park status. We couldn’t be more proud to share our vistas and trails with the world, but we’ll always claim to be the OG’s — the river rats, MTB-ers and cragsmen that made this place famous.
